๐ŸŽˆMy Story๐ŸŽˆ

My name is Lucas, and Iโ€™m a 4-year-old male Jack Russell Terrier ร— Welsh mix weighing around 10kg. I have a compact, sturdy body โ€” but my short little legs are what everyone notices first. People often say I look extra adorable when I walk, and I think itโ€™s because every step I take naturally makes people smile. ๐Ÿ˜Š For a long time, I lived in a shelter. I was rescued just before euthanasia, and since then Iโ€™ve been given a second chance at life. Now Iโ€™m staying in a training facility where Iโ€™m slowly learning what the world is like outside the shelter. Everything still feels new to me โ€” other dogs playing freely, interesting smells on walks, toys, and especially kind human attention. Itโ€™s almost like Iโ€™m finally experiencing what it means to just be a dog.

Because Iโ€™m discovering so much for the first time, I get very curious about everything around me. But there are also things I still need help understanding. Sometimes, if a hand suddenly reaches over my head or someone touches me unexpectedly, I can get scared and react defensively. In those moments, it may look like Iโ€™m trying to bite, but itโ€™s really just fear โ€” a way for me to protect myself when I feel unsure. When people take time to approach me gently, that behavior becomes much less, and my true personality starts to show. Because deep downโ€ฆ Iโ€™m actually a very sweet and affectionate boy. ๐Ÿ’› I just need time.

What I need most is not quick bonding, but patience and understanding. If you let me come to you at my own pace instead of forcing touch or rushing interactions, I will slowly begin to trust you. It helps a lot when people approach me from the side or below rather than reaching over my head, and when they use calm voices and positive experiences to help me feel safe. Once I trust someone, I become a completely different dog โ€” I love attention, I follow my person around, and I show a very affectionate and playful side.

I also need time to adjust because I havenโ€™t really experienced normal home life before. A house, daily routines, leash walking in neighborhoods, being alone for short periods, and house training โ€” all of these are still new to me. At first, I may feel nervous or make mistakes, but thatโ€™s not bad behavior. Itโ€™s just me learning how to live in a home. What helps me grow is guidance, not punishment. With a stable routine, regular walks, and positive reinforcement, I can gradually build confidence and feel more secure. Iโ€™m smart and curious, and with the right support, I learn step by step at my own pace. In the beginning, itโ€™s really important for me to have a calm environment and not too much overwhelming stimulation. If Iโ€™m given space and time to feel safe, I will slowly open my heart. And when I do, I will stay by your side with all my loyalty and love. I may not be the easiest dog at first, but I promise I have a heart that is ready to love deeply once I feel safe. Iโ€™m Lucas โ€” a small dog with short legs, a long journey behind me, and a big hope for a forever family who will understand me and walk with me at my own pace. ๐Ÿพ
